ATTLEBORO - Attleboro schools ended the fiscal year with $510,000 of its approximately $57 million budget left over.

However, most of that money has already been spoken for in the form of electricity bills.

Schools Business Manager Marc Furtado said the actual amount won't be certified until next month. The leftover funds represent about nine tenths of one percent of the annual budget.

ATTLEBORO - Fresh produce is being sought as donations to the Working Person's & Senior's Food Pantries.

ATTLEBORO - Rape charges against a city man have been dropped after the child recanted allegations he made during an earlier interview with child abuse experts.

Jason C. Pina, 27, of 13 Pearl St. in Attleboro, had been charged last November, after the interview, with raping a 3-year-old boy. Pina, who is known to the boy, had always denied the allegations.

ATTLEBORO - School officials hope to meet with representatives of the Massachusetts School Building Authority within the next two months to discuss details relating to a mammoth roof repair project at the high school.

Superintendent Pia Durkin said state officials could hold a meeting with school administrators and the mayor within the next four to six weeks in an attempt to move forward with the project, which could cost in the neighborhood of $5 million. The state would provide just over half the funds for the job.

Because of the complexities of approving and funding the repair project, however, school business manager Marc Furtado said it may take some time before the roofing project is completed.
