Teams wanted for spring tourney: Local youth basketball teams are invited to enter the Spring Hoops tournament, which will be held March 20 and 21 in Medway. There will be separate divisions for boys and girls teams in Grades 5, 6, 7 and 8. All teams entered will play at least three games and as many as five. The tournament is open to town travel teams, CYO, Boys and Girls Club and YMCA teams as well as school teams. AAU teams are not eligible. ATTLEBORO Referee course offered: Attleboro Youth Soccer is hosting a Grade 8 Referee course. Participants should be at least 15 years of age by the beginning of their first season as a referee. The course will be conducted at Attleboro High School's Mini Auditorium on February 3 and February 6, from 6-10 p.m.; on February 7, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and will culminate with a test on February, 10 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The teachers will be USSF certified instructors. Students must complete all 16 hours of instruction and pass the written test. Class size is limited, so sign up as soon as possible. Massachusetts Rambler AAU Baseball team will be holding tryouts on January 31 at 10 a.m. then again on February 7 and 8 (Site TBA). Tryouts for the team's inaugural season are open to any boy who does not turn 15 years of age before August 1, 2004. The 35-game season will begin in April with all games played in the southeastern Massachusetts/Rhode Island area. Space is limited. The Attleboro YMCA will be hosting its 12th annual baseball clinic on Sunday, January 25, running from noon-2 p.m. and is for youths aged six through high school. Boston Red Sox pitching coach Dave Wallace will lead the clinic with help from former Boston pitcher Ken Ryan, former Minnesota Twin and current Bishop Feehan High coach Greg Gagne as well as other area high school coaches. Pitching, catching, hitting and fielding techniques will be discussed and demonstrated. Participants are asked to bring a baseball glove, sneakers and appropriate workout attire. Hitting Clinic: Rhode Island Baseball Academy and Rhode Island College will host its annual hitting clinic at RIC's Recreation Center. The clinics costs $1 and are held at the recreation center, or armory, on Pine Street. They run on Sunday evenings, 6-8 p.m. The fundamentals of pitching, hitting and fielding will be stressed. Parental participation is encouraged. Wrentham Baseball/Softball Registrations: WYBSA is holding registrations for Spring 2004.
