After the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court legalized same-sex marriage six months ago, Justice of the Peace Raymond Oberg of Attleboro got several telephone calls from people asking if he would marry gay and lesbian couples.
His answer was that he would abide by state law.
`` That is exactly what I will do'' on May 17 when the court ruling takes effect, Oberg said. `` I will be willing to perform a ceremony for a same-sex couple.''
Oberg said he has known gay couples over the years, and has no problem with them getting married.
But other justices of the peace who disagree with same-sex marriage face a dilemma. Gov. Mitt Romney's legal counsel has said they either officiate at the marriages or they should resign their commission.
