Garage hit by lightning

A thunderstorm that moved through the area Wednesday night caused a garage fire in Plainville when a lightning bolt struck it, and dumped up to a quarter of an inch of rain in the Foxboro area.

The thunderstorm followed a day of hot, humid weather with temperature reaching 95 degrees, tying a record high for June 9 set in 1959, according to a spokesman at the Attleboro Water Department.

A lightning bolt ignited a garage on fire around 10 p.m. at 8 Fuller St. in Plainville where fire officials say no injuries were reported. The garage was attached to a house.

No details were available on the damage.
