Diocese invites parishes
Top Headlines Bishop George Coleman has sent let ters to all pastors to encourage involve ment in the event to be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Oct. 11, the Columbus Day holi day. Attleboro residents David and Kathy Harum, parishioners of St. John the Evangelist Church, will apply their the ater experience in serving as masters of ceremonies for the celebration. The event will open with a banner pro cession involving representatives from parishes, diocesan organizations, schools, and altar servers. Music will be provided by a choir of singers from various parish es. The afternoon will include a multi-lin gual praying of the Luminous Mysteries, a eucharistic procession, benediction, a reflection by Coleman, musical interludes, and a closing procession. Meditations and prayer intentions will center on the diocese and on giving thanks for the past 100 years while asking for continued blessings in the second cen tury. The diocese has received an Apos tolic Blessing from Pope John Paul II for the event. A tent will be erected on the shrine grounds for the 3,500 people who are expected to attend. A program book is being prepared, and event souvenirs will be given to participants. The Rev. George Harrison, chairman of the rosary celebration and pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Seekonk, said he is hoping for wide spread participation. `` This is a diocesan celebration and the more representation from the various components that make up the fabric of our diocesan family, the more powerful and celebratory the event will be,'' Harri son said.
