BASEBALL

Legion Tournament: The Northeast Regional Legion Tournament will be held at Palmer Field in Middletown, CT, August 12 through August 16. The teams include the six New England champions, New Jersey and the host team, Middletown Post 75. Advance tickets are available. Tickets come in booklets of 15 for $20 and can be used in any combination for any game or games. Tickets can be ordered by sending a check made out to American Legion Post 75 and sent with a stamped, self-addressed envelope to: American Legion Post 75, c/o William Pomfret, 55 Gleeson Road, Middletown, CT 06457. Tickets for the Regional Banquet, to be held the evening of August 11, are priced at $30 each.

BASKETBALL

Matt Freeman's FUN-damental Basketball Camp announces its second year at Bishop Feehan High School. The dates will be Aug. 2-6, and the hours will be 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. The cost will be $125. Ten Star All-Star Basketball Camp: Applications are now being evaluated for the invitation-only, Ten Star All-Star Summer Basketball Camp. Boys and girls ages 10-to-19 are eligible to apply. The third annual Cumberland Hoopzfest 3-on-3 basketball tournament will take place on Saturday August 14 at Currier Chase Park in Cumberland, Rhode Island. The rain date will be August 21. The 3-on-3 basketball tournament will have three divisions for both boys and girls. The divisions will be broken up by ages: 10-12, 13-14 and 15-17. There will also be two adult divisions: 18+ women and 18+ men. The start time is 9 a.m. The cost is $60 per team. Registration will be accepted until August 11. Every team is guaranteed at least three games. There are prizes for the winners. Food and beverages will be available to purchase. For more information call 401-334-9996. FIELD HOCKEY

Mansfield Youth Field Hockey Camp: Sponsored by the Massachusetts South Sectional Field Hockey Association and Mansfield High School Field Hockey; Aug. 16-20, 8:30-11:30 a.m. at MHS. Fee is $70, which includes 15 hours of instruction, T-shirt and a free fall league. Open to girls entering grades 4-9/beginners through advanced. Contact Lisa Anastos at 617-851-3626.

GOLF

The `Budgie Campbell Open' golf tournament, sponsored by the Gridiron Club of Mansfield, to benefit the Mansfield High School football program, will be held on Friday, Aug. 20 at Firefly Country Club. Breakfast will be at 10:30 a.m. and the shotgun start will be at noon. The entry fee of $125 per person includes breakfast, golf with cart, dinner (surf-and-turf), contests and prizes. Special Olympics Golf Tournament: The fifth-annual tournament will be held at Highland Country Club on August 9 and will include a $10,000 putting contest as well as prizes for closest to the pin on five holes, longest drive and closest to the line for both men and women. Tee time is 8:30 a.m. A very limited number of slots are available. Those interested should call 508-222-9975 to enter. The cost is $100 per player, which includes golf, cart and lunch. A raffle for a variety of prizes will also be provided. Golf Committee Chairman Bob Haggerty also announced the prizes for shooting a hole-in-one at the tournament. In addition to the $10,000 at the seventh hole, Mandeville Chevrolet is providing a new car which can be won on the fourth hole. This tournament raises money for the Special Olympians of the area, including Attleboro, Seekonk, Plainville, Mansfield, Norton, Foxboro, North Attleboro and Easton. The money goes toward training and travel expenses.

Attleboro YMCA/Airport Golf Lessons: The Attleboro YMCA will offer another session of golf lessons at Airport Golf/Driving Range on Kelly Boulevard in North Attleboro, taught by the facility's professional staff. A ladies class will be offered on Wednesday mornings from 10-11 running through August 25. A seniors clinic will be held on Tuesday mornings from 9-10 beginning on July 20 and running through August 24. An adult co-ed clinic will be held on Tuesday evenings from 6:30-7:30 running through August 24. Sign-ups are now taking place at the Attleboro YMCA. Cost for the ladies and co-ed lessons is $135 and the cost for the seniors clinic is $125. Call the Attleboro YMCA at 508-222-7422 for more information or to register.

Andrew R. Hoban Memorial Golf Tournament: Due to overwhelming response the second annual Andrew R. Hoban Memorial Golf Tournament will expand to a double-shotgun, both taking place on Monday, August 16 at Quidnesset Country Club. To reserve a spot for your foursome send your checks (payable to the Andrew R. Hoban Memorial Fund) to PO Box 84, East Greenwich, RI 02818. Cost is $150 per person, which includes luncheon, 18 holes of golf, cart, roast prime rib dinner, gifts and all gratuities. The cost to sponsor a tee is $100 and $300 to become a tournament sponsor. HOCKEY Power-skating Hockey Clinic: The Aleixo Skating Rink has opened registration for a preseason power-skating, conditioning clinic that will be offered at the ice rink the week of Aug. 16-20. The program will be instructed by Rick Nadeau, Taunton Jr. High Hockey and Bay State Hockey Director, and will feature a 10 & under age group as well as a 11-14 age group. Each group will participate in two hours of on-ice instruction and drills during the five-day program. Space is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis. MISCELLANEOUS

Scenic Walking: Walk in the footsteps of the Pilgrims on a 10-kilometer (6.2 miles) walk in historic Plymouth. The scenic walk is seasonal, running through November 28 during daylight hours. The start point is Wal-Mart, 381 Court Street, Plymouth. Ask for the walk box at the service desk. The walk is rated moderately easy but is not suitable for strollers or wheelchairs. Community Youth Track & Field Meets at Bishop Feehan High School. Fridays July 30, August 6, & 13. For ages 18 & under. No experience necessary. SOCCER

Player's Choice pick-up game for women 25-over, every Friday from 9:30-10:30 a.m.

The New England Revolution Community Kickers Program will visit the Foxboro YMCA on Aug. 16-19. The Community Kickers is 12 hours of instruction where the participants are grouped by age and ability, with the emphasis on fun and individual improvement. New England Revolution coaches, players and staff, who offer the very best in youth training, lead the program. The theme of the week will include individual training, small games and tactical awareness. The program is for boys and girls U8-U12. Cost is $175 per child, $10 for each additional sibling. Space is limited to 100 participants each session. The cost includes: 12 hours of soccer instruction; 12:1 player-to-coach ration; regulation sized soccer ball; Revolution Academy t-shirt; two game tickets for Academy Graduation at home Revolution match; private observation of a Revolution training session; top participants eligible for select Revolution Academy. The First Touch Soccer Camp for high school girls will be running in its sixth year at Oliver Ames High School. The dates are August 8th to 11th from 4:30-7:30 p.m. The fee is $100 dollars, and it includes a soccer ball. This camp is to assist high school girls in preparing for their upcoming preseason. SWIMMING

VOLLEYBALL
