REHOBOTH -- A 38-year-old Swansea man died Sunday from injuries he suffered when he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into a tree on Elm Street.
The victim, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead on arrival at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, according to police.
The cause of the 5:45 p.m. accident is under investigation, but preliminary reports indicate that speed was a factor, said Sgt. James Medeiros, who is investigating with Officer Brian Thibodeau.
Medeiros said the victim was traveling south on Elm Street and veered off the road at a curve about a quarter-mile south of County Street.
The name of the victim was not immediately released, pending notification of the next of kin.
