ATTLEBORO -- Now in its 21st year, the annual Christmas Is For Kids drive, organized by the Greater Attleboro Area Council for Children, will begin today with the opening of donor lines.
Coinciding with the publishing of the drive's Wish List in today's Sun Chronicle on Pages E6-E9, the lines will be open from 9 a.m. to noon today. People wishing to help may call 508-226-9811.
The Christmas Is For Kids Drive serves children in Attleboro, Norton, North Attleboro, Rehoboth and Seekonk, and works closely with the Enchanted Elves drive in North Attleboro and the Norton Fire Department drive to be sure that applications are being processed only once.
In addition, Council for Children President Marilyn Godfrey, who coordinates the drive, says any requests from Mansfield families are passed on to the West Side Benevolent Circle's drive in Mansfield.
There are currently about 700 children on the Christmas Is For Kids list. But Godfrey said she expects the list to get much longer, noting that, as in past years, only those children listed on completed applications received before the publication deadline are included on the list published in today's Sun Chronicle.
