Norton standoff ends

NORTON -- Police Wednesday subdued a despondent man who barricaded himself in his home before fleeing towards nearby woods following a seven-hour standoff on Kendall Park.

Robert Demarco, 39, of 4 Kendall Park, was taken to Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro for evaluation. He will not be charged in connection with the incident, police said.

The lengthy siege began about 9:30 a.m., when Norton police received a call about a man armed with a knife and threatening to harm anyone who came near him, police said.

Demarco was at home with his mother at the time but did not threaten her and was not holding her hostage, Detective Sgt. Brian Clark said.
