High winds cause scattered damage

Winds gusting almost 50 mph knocked down trees, branches and utility lines Wednesday, keeping area police and firefighters busy, but causing no major damage, officials said.
Scattered power failures affected 660 customers in Foxboro, Franklin, Northbridge and Dighton. Of those, 450 were in Franklin, according to Debbie Drew, a spokeswoman for Massachusetts Electric.
`` We have had throughout the day a large number of scattered outages throughout the state,'' Amy Atwood, another spokeswoman for MassElectric, said Wednesday night.
There were fewer than 10 customers in the Attleboro area without power late Wednesday, she said.
