NORTH ATTLEBORO -- The Taunton High Tigers found ways to win a basketball game and the 29th annual North Attleboro Holiday Tournament title Thursday.

With four players reaching double scoring figures, including MVP Barry Latham having 14 points and seven rebounds, Taunton High held off the Bombardiers of Attleboro High 68-59.

In capturing their third Holiday Tournament title over the past four seasons, the Tigers' man-to-man defense denied Attleboro from scoring a basket from the floor for a seven-minute stretch of crunch time during the second half.

"They played good defense in the spots where we wanted to be,'' said Attleboro High coach Mark Houle. "We were out of sync.''

Owning a 47-46 lead with just under eight minutes remaining to be played, the Bombardiers made just one shot from the floor thereafter, a three-pointer by Drew Legare with 31 seconds left, cutting Taunton's lead to 67-59.
The Tigers created spurts of six, seven and six unanswered points -- Latham scoring nine points, five at the free throw line -- to give Taunton the upper hand.

Caesar Oliveira, Taunton's 5-foot-10 sophomore swingman, totaled 19 points -- hitting four three-pointers and was joined on the All Tournament Team by Franklin High's Jeff Macchi, Attleboro High's Mike Coyne and Andrew Pomfret.
