Top Headlines Clinic offered: The Boys & Girls Club of Pawtucket will be hosting the third annual RBI Winter Baseball Clinic on Saturday, Jan. 15 at the Wheeler School Field House in Seekonk. This clinic is a one-day clinic for players ages 13-18 and will take place from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Cost is $85 per participant. Warrior Winter Hits: Cincinnati Reds scout and Seekonk High baseball coach Jim Pereira has announced that the Warrior Winter Hits Baseball Clinic will be held at Seekonk High on Jan. 16. Attleboro Youth Baseball League: is holding its Monday Night Baseball Skills and Drills program through April at the Fredric M. Bartek Recreation Center (formerly the Attleboro Recreation Center). Session I is for players ages 9-12 and runs from 7-8 p.m. while Session II is for players ages 13-18 and runs from 8-9 p.m. Players will be instructed on baseball fundamentals including hitting, fielding and throwing. Attleboro Youth Baseball final registration will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 19 from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 22 from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., both days at the Fredric M. Registration fees are $45 for Tee-Ball (age 6 only), $60 for Prep and Babe Ruth (ages 13-15) and $55 for Pee Wee 7/Parent (ages 7-12). Discounts are available for families with two or more families. All 6-year old players and all players that did not participate last season must provide a non-refundable copy of a birth certificate at registration. Hockomock AAU Tryout: Currently seeking players 13-and-under from Norfolk, Wrentham and Plainville. The tryout for this travel team will be on Tuesday, Feb. 1. Assistant coaches are also needed. There are openings for Grades 5, 6, 7 and 8 girls teams in the eighth annual Worcester Shootout, which will be held Feb. 19, 20 and 21 at Assumption College in Worcester. Boys and girls teams in Grades 5, 6, 7 and 8 are eligible for the fifth annual Spring Hoops Tournament, to be held in Medway during the weekend of March 19-20. Travel teams, CYO/YMCA teams and school teams are eligible for both tournaments while AAU teams are not. All teams entered play a minimum of three games and players on championship teams receive trophies. Reduced-rate hotel accommodations are available for teams and families to stay overnight. Games will be weekday evenings from 5-8:30 p.m. and weekends 8:30 a.m. -9 p.m. Each team is guaranteed three games. The boys' division will feature teams in Grades 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 while the girls' division will have a combined Grades 4-5 team and teams in Grades 6, 7 and 8. No AAU or regional teams are allowed. TEN-STAR ALL-STAR CAMP: Applications are now being evaluated for the Ten-Star All-Star Summer Basketball camp. The camp is by invitation only. Players will develop skills, stick and techniques as well as game strategies. The Recreation Department's goals for this program are to establish a competitive Junior High team for the fall of 2005, establish a feeder program for FHS and create more opportunities for female athletes. The six-week program, held at Bishop Feehan High School, will be under the guise of Shamrock varsity coach Kristen Gerrior and assistant Gary Warren. The program is geared to sharpening skills, including hitting, fielding, pitching and basic fundamentals. The clinic will run in two separate sessions with Session I (grades 7-9) running from 12-1:30 p.m. and Session II (grades 10-12) from 1:30-3 p.m. Cost is $100.
