NORTH ATTLEBORO -- Gen eral Manager David Sweet land resigned from North Attleboro Electric on Thurs day after reaching a $50,000 settlement with electric com missioners.

Sweetland, who earned a salary of about $110,000 a year, was placed on paid adminis trative leave in August, pend ing the results of an investiga tion into whether the electric department improperly spent $4 million to start a dial-up Internet service.

Sweetland has denied the money was used to start an Internet service and says bookkeeping errors have given an erroneous impression.
