NA candidates oppose fluoride
NORTH ATTLEBORO -- The board of health's stance on fluoridation isn't in for a major reversal after April's election, no matter which candidate is elected.
Both Sarah Sheppard and Susan Shaw, who are vying for a three-year seat on the board, are opposed to fluoride.
Current Board of Health Chairwoman Deborah Morse, a fluoride opponent, is not running for re-election.
The board voted 2 to 1 on Tuesday to halt fluoridation, despite an opinion from Town Counsel Robert Bliss that it does not have the authority to do so.
Fluoride remains in the town's water as the department of public works consults with town counsel about whether a cease and desist order issued by the board of health on Friday should be followed.
Fluoride is injected in many water systems across the country to prevent tooth decay. |
