ATTLEBORO -- Residents with questions about the environmental cleanup at the Apco-Mossberg site on Thacher and Lamb streets will have a chance to ask them later this month.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has scheduled an informational meeting at 7 p.m. March 31 in city hall.
Work on the site that's contaminated with toxins including PCBs in capacitors, lead, barium and cadmium began last month with the erection of a fence, the installation of erosion control devices and the posting of signs.
The $300,000 job was prompted by construction plans for a new Thacher Street bridge that requires the excavation of a corner of the contaminated site.
The contaminants, which have been there since a fire destroyed the Apco-Mossberg Co. factory in 1987, must be removed before construction work begins to keep bridge workers and nearby residents safe.
