PawSox tripped up

PAWTUCKET -- The days are numbered for Adam Stern, the Rule 5 outfielder, who may be recalled by the Boston Red Sox after the All-Star break.
His days with the Pawtucket Red Sox have been nothing but good numbers. Stern extended his hitting streak to 14 games and scored a pair of runs Saturday night at McCoy Stadium before the second largest (11,051) gathering of the season, but the Charlotte Knights scored their fourth straight victory over the PawSox 5-2.
"Some days I feel better than others, but I just try to go out there and put my bat on the ball,'' said Stern, whose days as a member of the PawSox end on July 12. If Boston does not place him on their 25-man roster, then he returns to the Atlanta Braves organization.
Stern had an infield single to lead off the sixth inning and eventually put the PawSox on the scoreboard, when he scored on a Roberto Petagine sacrifice flyball.
And in the eighth inning, Stern drew a leadoff walk, moved into scoring position on a pair of infield outs and scored on a wild pitch.
Stern was sent to the PawSox on June 23 for a 20-day major league rehab assignment after a hamstring injury. Originally property of the Atlanta Braves, a member of Team Canada at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Stern batted .406 (13-for-32) on the recent roadtrip, hitting just as well against righthanders (.325) as he is against lefthanders (.389). |
