Post 312 ousted

WALPOLE -- Three more outs.

That's all that stood between the South Attleboro American Legion baseball team and a trip to the third round of the playoffs.

It was amazing that Post 312 was even that close when you consider they sleepwalked through the first five innings -- managing just two baserunners -- and then fell behind 6-4 heading into the eighth.

But after taking the lead with another eighth-inning uprising, South Attleboro was just three outs away from advancing.

However, Walpole Post 104 fashioned a comeback of its own Friday evening at Eldracher Field, scoring three times in the top of the ninth to secure an entertaining, 9-8 victory.

`` This is absolute insanity ... but I love it,'' Walpole coach Chris Costello told his team during the ninth-inning comeback.

Insanity in that neither team could put the other away.
