Mayor seeks summit
ATTLEBORO -- Mayor Kevin Dumas has called a summit of city and school financial officials, saying he aims to prevent a repetition of faulty accounting that led to a $1.47 million surplus in the school budget.
`` I owe it to all the people who have children in the school system to make sure this doesn't happen again,'' the mayor said late Wednesday after meeting twice with Superintendent Joel Lovering during the day.
The surplus, which equaled almost 3 percent of the school's $50 million spending plan for fiscal year 2005, happened in a year that saw 77 job cuts, a number of program reductions and student fee increases.
