Developers push for opening

ATTLEBORO -- With the holiday shopping season under way, the developer of Mayfaire Center has asked the city to approve its definition of `` substantial completion'' for the Route 1 and May Street intersection now under construction so its stores can open sooner.
Spartan Development can't legally open the 100,000-square-foot, four-store shopping plaza until the new intersection is functioning because of a deed restriction imposed by the city.
A lawyer for Spartan said in a letter to Mayor Kevin Dumas that an agreement is needed because the definition of substantial completion is `` subject to interpretation and contains ambiguity.''
