A reason to rejoice

ATTLEBORO -- Hundreds turned out Sunday to celebrate one youngster's success in his battle against cancer, and to raise money to help other children going through the same ordeal.
The first A.J. Brown Family Fun Day at the Plainridge Racecourse in Plainville drew about 300 people. At 2 1/2 years old, the petite A.J., with his deep blue eyes, fair blonde hair, winning smile and freshly painted red truck on his right cheek, was just one of the many children who enjoyed the giant party in his honor.
In April 2004 at the age of 14 months, A.J., whose actually is named Albert James after his grandfather, was diagnosed with anaplastic ependymoma and underwent surgery to remove the malignant brain tumor caused by the cancer.
A.J. is now considered cancer-free, which was the main reason he and others enjoyed a day of activities, entertainment, food, plenty of friendly faces, and even a visit from Santa.
