ATTLEBORO -- State authorities confirmed the presence of water in gasoline at a Route 1 filling station Friday after motorists complained that their cars broke down after purchasing fuel there.
Charles Carroll, assistant deputy director of the Division of Standards at the state Department of Consumer Affairs, said routine tests performed Friday by a state inspector showed water in the regular gas storage tank at the Valero station at 584 Washington St. in South Attleboro.
He said the normal procedure would be to shut the tank down until it can be pumped out and the source of the contamination identified.
