A bridge to remember

DIGHTON -- In a more peaceful time that now seems so very long ago, Marine Lance Cpl. John Van Gyzen IV would while away the hours fishing on the Segregansett River in the shadow of the Route 138 Bridge.
Van Gyzen, a 2001 graduate of Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School, enlisted in the Marines when he was just 17. He was killed on July 5, 2004, in a roadside ambush in Iraq.
Now, Van Gyzen will be remembered when the bridge beneath which he spent so many quiet moments is named in his honor.
