McDaniels new Pats offensive coordinator

FOXBORO — Although he’s a mere babe in arms compared to a number of his peers, Josh McDaniels doesn’t believe he’s exceeded his grasp by being named the new offensive coordinator of the New England Patriots.

"Every job that I’ve had here, Bill (Belichick) has basically given me because he felt I was ready," McDaniels, 29, said Friday upon the announcement of his promotion. "I trust his judgment and have faith in whatever he tells me that I’m ready to do. If he feels I’m ready to do this, I do too."

The announcement was, to many, just a validation of what McDaniels, the quarterbacks coach, was already doing. A sixth-year veteran on the coaching staff despite his tender age, McDaniels served this past season as the conduit through which offensive plays were relayed to quarterback Tom Brady, and many believed he played an increasing role in shaping the offensive game plan as time passed.
