TAUNTON -- An 82-year-old Attleboro woman bilked by a con man of about $180,000 said Tuesday she now lives `` below the poverty line'' because she believed the man's false promises to share profits from a business that did not exist.
Todd R. LeBlanc, 35, listened to Annette Boyle describe how her misplaced trust in him ruined her financial security and blackened the twilight of her life -- but he offered no apology.
After pleading guilty in Taunton Superior Court to scamming Boyle and others, LeBlanc walked by the elderly woman, her son and her sister in the courtroom, but never looked her in the eye.
`` I put my trust in someone who was so unworthy,'' Boyle told Judge Richard Chin after describing the embarrassment she felt when she realized she was duped.
