NORTH ATTLEBORO -- The price of the former Mason Avenue police station has been slashed from $340,000 to $266,200 after several failed attempts to sell the building at the higher price.
Representative Town Meeting members unanimously approved the minimum sale price for the building at Monday's special town meeting.
The new price is based on the assessor's appraisal of the building, which has dropped because the property is no longer in use and needs extensive repairs.
Building Inspector Paul DiChiara said renovation work needed at the building would cost from $335,000 to $945,000, and those figures do not include demolition work.
Those figures also do not include $300,000 to $500,000 in upgrades needed to bring the building into compliance with handicapped accessibility standards, which would be required if the building is used by the town.
Town Administrator Mark Fisher said he will prepare an advertisement asking potential buyers to make an offer within the next few weeks.
In other business, the RTM:
E Approved new contracts for the International Association of Firefighters Local 1992 and the two units of the United Steelworker's Association, which provided for 3 percent raises per year, retroactive to 2004.
E Transferred $355,565 from a variety of line items in order to cover shortfalls in energy budgets.
