Travel show at Gillette

FOXBORO -- Wearing lime green mouse ears, 5-year-old Alexis Davis was ready to go to Disneyland on Friday night.

Instead, a bit of Disneyland came to her.

Disneyland Resorts booked vacations in Foxboro in front of a giant snapshot of Chip and Dale, Goofy, Donald and Pluto.

The 3rd Annual AAA Travel Marketplace brought Disney and a virtual shopping mall full of getaway spots to the Fidelity Invest ments Clubhouse at Gillette Stadium.

Davis and her mother, Linda, of Norton, came to check out Samsonite's display; Linda Davis works for the luggage company.

Along the way, the Davises stopped by to see Disney, which held court in a small makeshift corridor.

The family previously booked a Disney trip, which is a few weeks away, Linda said. Alexis clearly cannot wait to go.

`` I loooooooove Mickey Mouse!'' she said.

AAA's show continues through the week end. The hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

The hundreds of first arrivals put AAA on a pace to hit 13,000 for the weekend, match ing last year's attendance, AAA Southern New England Vice President of Travel Bill Sutherland said.

Guests on Friday seemed drawn mostly to cruises and driving vacations, he said.

`` All of the cruise people seem to have peo ple mobbed around them,'' Sutherland said.

Wrentham resident Jonathan Brooks, attending for the second time in three years, agreed.

`` It's a lot more cruises and a lot less island destinations. I guess people like cruis es,'' Brooks said.

Brooks sought out a TNT Vacations guide for more information about travel deals he saw online.

`` She answered my exact questions,'' Brooks said.

Somerset residents William Cox and Car rie Barboza tried to book their honeymoon. They are marrying in October, Cox said.

`` We've looked at Vegas, Hawaii, Orlando,'' he said.

Images from such destinations played not only on monitors throughout the hall but also on the Gillette Stadium video boards.

At the same time, guests couldn't pass a kiosk without hearing questions like `` Been to Virginia lately?''

`` I think we've had a couple of really cold days recently. People want to get out, want to get to a warmer climate,'' Sutherland said.

Randolph residents Don and Ann Cedarholm want to explore the national parks in the west.

`` This is the best place to get the most information if you're a travel person,'' Ann Cedarholm said.

Or, on the heels of the latest snowstorm, if you just want to get away to warmer regions.

`` With the long winter, you start thinking about traveling,'' Don Cedarholm said. `` It's like going to a golf show or a boat show.''
