Taunton -- Two Warwick, R.I., women escaped major injuries, but face several charges after crashing an allegedly stolen car on Route 24 at the end of a high-speed chase by Taunton and State police Sunday afternoon.
Taunton police said it all started with a report of shoplifting at Target near the Silver City Galleria. When officers arrived, police said, the sus pects already were in what turned out to be a stolen car and took off, leading police through Taunton into Fall River.
Just as the pair were coming to the junction of I-195, the driver, Bren da Partin, 35, reportedly lost control of the car and it flipped over. Partin suffered non-life threatening injuries and was treated at a local hospital.
Her passenger, Lori Brown, 46, was treated at a local hospital and released into police custody soon after the accident, which happened around 2:40 p.m.
Taunton police had not finished issuing charges by early Sunday evening, but said that both women would be charged with shoplifting -- they are accused of taking baby for mula, Kool-Aid, curtains and a shirt totaling $429 from Target -- and receiving a stolen motor vehicle.
Police said that Partin also is like ly to face several motor vehicle charges, including failure to stop for a police officer and operating to endanger.
Two Taunton police cruisers were dispatched to the incident.
State police are investigating the accident.
