Norton's Cheryl Houlihan won a fourth consecutive boxing title as former champions dominated the finals of the women's division of the U.S. Amateur Championships last week at Colorado Springs, Colo.
Houlihan won in the 110-pound class with a 19-13 decision over Ava Knight from Chico, Calif.
`` It feels good, but not as good as the last one,'' said Houlihan, a student at Bristol Community College, where she plans to study sociology and English. `` I felt a little tired.''
Houlihan, 21, who averages about 10 to 12 bouts a year, compiled a 26-2 record in the United States and an 11-3 record in international competition, but has no plans to turn pro.
`` I'll keep doing it as long as it's fun,'' said last year's Women's Continental Championship gold medalist. `` I'll remain an amateur because for me it's not about the money, the politics, it's all a matter of the heart.''
