REHOBOTH -- A 19-year-old Seekonk woman was killed Tuesday when the car she was driving crashed into trees off Summer Street.
The accident occurred shortly before 5:20 p.m. near 176 Summer Street on a stretch of the road between Route 118 and the Seekonk line, Rehoboth Patrolman Paul Terenzi said.
Summer Street is near Route 44.
The victim was pronounced dead at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, Terenzi said.
The name of the victim -- the only occupant of the car -- was not released late Tuesday night.
The 2001 Mitsubishi was eastbound on Summer Street when it veered off the road and into a grove of trees. The impact ripped the car apart.
`` It was a group of trees, but mainly one large tree,'' Terenzi said.
The accident is under investigation by state police.
