Crash on I-95 kills NA driver
Top Headlines Rhode Island State Police have not released the identity of the driver, pending notification of his family. At roughly 5 p.m., the unidentified driver was involved in an accident with another car on I-95 just south of exit 27 in Pawtucket, state police Lt. Thomas Underhill said. The other car fled the scene, and the unidentified driver chased that car, eventually losing control of his vehicle, Underhill said. His car careened off both the low- and high-speed barriers, spun out of control, and eventually ended up back against the low-speed barrier in the breakdown lane. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene due to head injuries, Underhill said. He was not wearing a seat belt, which likely played a major role in his death, Underhill said. `` It's my personal feeling that had he been wearing a seat belt, he would have walked away from that accident with minor injuries,'' Underhill said. An accident reconstruction expert is still investigating whether the vehicle was struck again after it spun out of control, Underhill said. The car that fled the scene was identified as a black two-door Honda or similar make, with the rear bumper torn off. The bumper was torn off in the accident, but the occupants got out of the car, picked it up and brought it back inside the car, then fled the scene and continued south on I-95, Underhill said. The driver of that car was identified as a young Hispanic males in his 20s. The two occupants were also identified as young Hispanic males in their 20s. State police are asking anyone with information about the accident to call the Lincoln barracks at 401-444-1100.
