AHS girls' track team tops North
Top Headlines With senior Symonne Scott erasing a Bombardier 100-meter dash record which stood tall since 1973, the Bombardiers scored an 70-66 victory over arch-rival North Attleboro Thursday at the Rocketeers' home, Beaupre Field. But victory was not assured for Attleboro until the final event of the meet, the long jump, when the Bombardiers swept the top three spots for nine points with Scott (17 feet, 10 inches), Anna Kern (16-7 1/2) and Alex Neville (16-2 1/4) taking the 1-2-3. `` We've come close to beating them a few times,'' said Attleboro coach Peter Lacasse of the rivalry with the Rocketeers. `` This meet was incredible, every single event was contested -- even fourth places were great performances.'' Scott, who had tied the AHS 100 meter record of 12.6, eclipsed that mark at 12.5, but had to earn it on a lean over North's Adrienne Goldberg (12.6). Scott them came back to win the 200 (26.8) and the high jump (4-10). Amanda DeForest (34-9 1/2) and Kern (32-8) scored a key 1-2 placement for Attleboro in the triple jump, while Bridget DeVincent clocked a 5:36 time in the mile run to nip North's Jenna Banks (5:38). North's Alix Vandeventer clocked a personal best time of 48 seconds to win the 300 hurdles by a lean over Kern (48.6). Attleboro freshman Dara Edge recorded a Bombardier rookie record in the 100 hurdles, clocking a 16.4 time, while Kern again had a tremendous second place finish at 16.6.
