REILLY: Positive Energy Day is almost here!

Are you one of those peo ple who spends your day cultivating positive thoughts, positive emotions and positive energy?

Are you the kind of person who never takes a sick day, is always upbeat and brimming with zest?

Do you know your coworkers hate you?

(That's why your stapler keeps disap pearing off your desk and sometimes, if you leave your cup unattended, you notice your coffee tastes funny.)

But never mind them. Finally, there is a day dedicat ed to you. Isn't that just fan tastic? Yes, of course it is!

According to a very positive press release received at this newspaper: `` In today's fastpaced, high stress society, wouldn't it be great if a day were devoted to cultivating positive thoughts, positive emotions, and overall positive energy in both adults and in children? In our schools, homes, and places of work? A day that would release us from the `Energy Vampires' that drain our lives and help us bet ter equip ourselves to over come fear, stress, and negativ ity?''

Just imagine a day, the release continues, with `` no negative office gossip, no neg ative comments, no road rage, no yelling, no self doubt.''

There's a name for a day like that. Most of us would call it unemployment.

But not you!

You would call it what it really is: Global Positive Ener gy Day, and here's the really great news: It's April 27. Holy cow! That's Thursday! Isn't that terrific! Of course it is!

According to Jon Gordon, the co-founder of PEP (The Positive Energy Program):

`` We're encouraging all citi zens to join in supporting the effort to cultivate and share positive energy in our schools, offices, neighborhoods and communities.'' Gordon, who describes himself as `` Ameri ca's #1 energy coach'' adds that it's `` just a day that enhances your own health and happiness and inspires love, kindness, compassion, positive energy, smiles, compliments and goodwill towards our fel low man.''

This initiative even has its own Web site (www.Posi tiveEnergyDay.com) so you know that it is authentic.

What the program seeks to do is use positive energy to fight not only job stress but also childhood obesity, chronic disease and the spiraling cost of health care.

Now, certainly some people will see this as either a hope lessly na'efve attempt to pro mote a day of sitting around singing `` Kumbaya'' or as a cynical promotion by Gordon, who, according to The State newspaper in South Carolina, has run restaurants, dropped in and out of law school, worked in a wireless-technolo gy biz and lost a city council race in Atlanta, and who offers seminars and training pro grams to teach his positive energy approach.

But that would be negative. And you are a positive person!

So, on April 27, let your pos itive energy shine! Gordon advises us to shun caffeine and sugary drinks, exercise and eat only healthy, natural foods. Won't that be terrific? Sure it will!

I'm going to grab some extra sleep that day while the rest of you are jazzed up on all that energy. It's making me tired. I'm positive.
