Furniture store to close in Foxboro

FOXBORO -- A furniture store that has been a Foxboro fixture for more than 40 years is closing its doors in November.
Foxboro Furniture is hosting a private four-day `` fine furniture sell-off'' Thursday through Sunday before advertising a going out of business sale, according to a mailing to selected customers.
Owner Harvey Smith said Tuesday that `` business conditions and the competition'' are costing him his seat at the furniture table.
`` We're in a very small market, and all the competition coming from all over has made this very difficult,'' said Smith, who also owns Foxfield Plaza where the store is located.
One of Smith's biggest competitors, Cardi's, opened in early 2004 on Route 1A in South Attleboro, near the Pawtucket line.
Foxboro Furniture promotes itself as `` one great store, under three roofs.''
The store draws customers throughout North Attleboro, Mansfield, Foxboro, Pawtucket, Norton, Walpole, Franklin, Plainville, Canton, Sharon, Hyde Park and surrounding towns, according to its Web site.
The store has anchored Foxfield Plaza for about 20 years.
Previously, it was located along the town common in what is now CVS Pharmacy.
The current store more than doubled in size with an addition about six years ago, Building Commissioner William Casbarra said. |
