ATTLEBORO - The Attleboro High boys' soccer team rebounded from an early deficit to defeat North Attleboro, 2-1, and capture the 22nd annual Leach and Garner Cup on Sunday afternoon at the Attleboro varsity soccer field.

The Rocketeers took a 1-0 lead on a penalty kick by Jon Van Dyne, five minutes into the match. The Bombardiers rebounded to tie the game at 1-all on a goal by Oliver Pertillo, off an assist from Ricardo Aldana, at the 10:40 mark of the half.

The score remained that way until the 35th minute when freshman Tyreek Summerville scored a goal with Pertillo assisting to give Attleboro a 2-1 advantage it would never relinquish.

"We played very well in the first half," said Attleboro head coach Peter Pereira, whose team owns a 12-10 advantage in the annual matchup between the two teams. "The guys kept their composure after the penalty kick. It was an up-and-down game. North Attleboro had a good team. This is a great game to play. It was an emotional game and both teams played well."

Pertillo earned Most Vaulable Player honors from Attleboro with Scott Macedonio collecting the MVP award from North Attleboro.
The Rocketeers outshot the Bombardiers in the match, 16-13, with Sean Winbourne making two saves in net for Attleboro, while Brendan Hamilton had nine stops for North. Aldana, a senior midfielder, played well in the match for the Bombardiers as did senior forward Steve Silveira.

"This was a great game to finish off on a good note and hopefully we can continue it into the tournament," said Pereira. "The two points we got was also important as far as the tournament pairings go."
