PLAINVILLE - Scenic, serene, and oh-so-convenient is the setting of the four-bedroom Colonial at 29 Rhodes St.
Situated high on a sloping one-acre property along a winding country road, the home offers views of custom landscaping and bordering forests as well as a nearby meadow and the rolling green fairways of the Wentworth Hills Golf Club.
It's a setting that Nick and Gail Prestera say they have very much appreciated since they moved from a downtown location in North Attleboro six years ago to take up residence in the newly-built home.
"We've always wanted to live in the country," Gail said. "We only moved five miles away, but this has a whole different feel out here. We're still so close to everything, but coming down that road, it's just a peaceful feeling. And, we love playing golf at the golf course.
Gail and Nick, a business manager for AT&T, have also added to the scenic view by creating the custom landscaping that surrounds the entire property, including a variety of flowering perennial plants and ornamental trees.
As a nice accent to the scene, they have also added a decorative retaining wall along the driveway, with brick steps and a curved brick walkway leading to the welcoming farmers porch.
In keeping with an overall theme of convenience that goes beyond the location of the home, the Presteras have added practical features, such as chimney caps, gutter helmets and a programmable irrigation system outside, and a water filtration system and quartz countertops inside.
Inside, the Presteras also like the convenient open layout of the more than 2,400 square feet of living space, which they say is great both for entertaining and for relaxing.
The open layout is at its best at the back of the home, where the 24- by 13-foot kitchen flows into the 20- by 14-foot family room.
"We essentially live right here," Gail says of the kitchen-family room area. "There's just a coziness about it. When you have a fire going in the fireplace, it's just cozy and comfortable. And, it's a great retreat. It's a great place to come home to."
The overall area also exemplifies the simple country atmosphere the Presteras have created throughout the home in everything from wall colorings and borders to window treatments to furnishings and accessories.
Spacious look
In the kitchen, they have added a white ceramic tile floor, which also flows left into an adjacent hall, laundry room and half bath, giving the entire area an even more spacious look.
Against the raised panel oak cabinets with their crown molding and open soffit area, the Presteras have chosen quartz for the countertops, which Gail says "has all the benefits of granite but it doesn't have any of the maintenance."
The countertops are in a blended shade of tan, black and white, which the Presteras have complemented with a double under-mount sink of black granite composite, black appliances, black cabinet pulls and tan walls.
The cabinets include a center island and separate desk area, and the appliances include a built-in microwave over a smooth top range.
Picking up the rust color of the quartz, the Presteras have also added a new type of track lighting made with pliable copper rods and small halogen lights, over both the island and sink.
Black valances with faint squares of beige complement the quartz as well, as they adorn the kitchen window and sliding glass doors to a backyard deck where the Preteras enjoy one of the best views of the fairways.
Next to the sliding glass doors on the left and the spacious family room straight ahead is a large eating area, where a simple Shaker style farmers table sets the tone of the country atmosphere.
Above the table, the Presteras have added a complementary black wrought iron chandelier, and Gail has enhanced the atmosphere with country accessories, as well as the antique Singer sewing machine that belonged to her aunt.
In the family room, the atmosphere gets even cozier with the dark gray-green-cranberry blend of berber carpeting and the brick fireplace, with its raised hearth and white crown molding mantel.
There are still plenty of views, however, with a double window overlooking the backyard and fairways, two windows flanking the fireplace and a large Palladium window overlooking the front yard and farmers porch.
Leather furniture in shades of hunter green and cranberry complement the carpeting, while more accessories, such as a wood-paned mirror and a tapestry above the fireplace, continue the country tone.
At the front of the home, an open foyer, flanked by a living room on the left and a dining room on the right, all add to the atmosphere as well.
The foyer offers the same white ceramic tile floor as the kitchen, complemented by muted gold walls, white woodwork and a beige-green blend of Berber stair carpeting.
Both the living room and dining room offer an oak floor and white-paned windows, topped with complementary valances, which overlook the farmers porch.
On the second floor, the Berber carpeting from the stairs continues through a wide hall and three of the home's four bedrooms.
The 13- by 19-foot master bedroom offers an oak floor and sage green walls. It also continues the country theme, with quilted valances and bedding in shades of red, white and blue.
In the master bath, the floor is white ceramic tile with a Terre-Stone countertop on an oak vanity and wrought iron accessories, from towel bar to wall lighting.
The front bedroom, used by Nick as an office, also features a large Palladium window overlooking the front yard.
The home offers much more as well, including a finished basement, with exercise room and walkout to a patio and hot tub.
It's a home the owners say they will miss very much when they relocate to Arizona via Nick's employment.
The property is listed for $559,900 with Gail Prestera of Century 21, Ed Pariseau, Realtors, at 508-695-8080. The property can be viewed during an open house from 1-3 p.m. Sunday.
