Haunting feeling in Attleboro
BY GEORGE W. RHODES SUN CHRONICLE STAFF
ATTLEBORO - Park Superintendent Sonny Almeida has been a city employee for 48 years, so, as the old saying goes, he's been around long enough "to know where all the bodies are buried."
But Almeida also knows where there's a ghost or two.
Well, he's as sure as one can be about such supernatural perceptions.
Who's ghost it is, he's not certain, but apparently it wanders the old Casino building, which is also a former art museum on the edge of Capron Park where Almeida has his office.
The ghost's wanderings take place at night and on weekends. Almeida knows its there because things get moved, he said.
To test the theory, Almeida once placed rug in a certain spot in front of a fireplace before leaving for the weekend. On Monday morning the rug was several feet away from where he left it.
And the rocking chair in his office tends to migrate overnight, as if someone or something whiles away the cold, quiet midnight hours rocking - back and forth, back and forth.
"Sometimes I wonder who it is," said Almeida about the poltergeist which, he said, seems to be friendly or at least harmless.
Almeida said the ghost doesn't make him nervous, although he acknowledged the relocated rug was a bit unsettling. |
