Organizers of a Norfolk County savings bank have shot down a much-anticipated merger of Bristol County Savings Bank and Randolph Savings.
Corporators of the Randolph bank voted last week against the merger, Bristol County Savings President E. Dennis Kelly confirmed.
Bristol County Savings is the larger of the two banks, whose merger was expected to create the state's sixth largest mutual bank.
Bristol County Savings officials had voted in favor of the merger.
Kelly called the vote "disappointing," but said the Taunton-based bank would continue its commitment to community banking.
Bristol County Savings Bank operates two loan centers and eight banking offices in the Taunton area, including branches in Attleboro, Rehoboth, Attleboro and North Attleboro.
