Motocross next at Gillette?

FOXBORO - Gillette Stadium, already home to two major league sports teams, Rolling Stones concerts and a bevy of trade and recreational shows, could also be hosting such events as motocross and college football in the future.

New England Patriot officials reportedly are already looking at potential college games to host at the stadium, not to mention high-flying motocross events in which tight packs of off-road motorcyclists chase each other around a twisting course that features a variety of jumps.

The recent installation of artificial Field Turf replacing the stadium's much-abused natural grass surface gives the stadium greater leeway to hold such events, said New England Patriots' spokesman Jeff Cournoyer.

No specific dates or sporting events have been announced.

With or without motorcycles, the stadium has been steadily broadening the number of non-football and non-soccer events hosted on its grounds. A three-day youth sports festival is set to debut in March, and the stadium also boasts a number of existing attractions including a bridal show, a home show and an international travel show. The stadium will be hosting the NCAA lacrosse championship in 2008.
