Chairman of school board won't run

MANSFIELD - School committee Chairman Emil Giordano will not seek a sixth term in May, ending 15 years on the board.

"I have a lot now going on at work. I don't feel I have enough time to devote to the school committee, as I did before," Giordano said Friday.

Giordano is a project executive for Turner Construction in Boston.

Giordano is the second incumbent to announce they won't seek re-election at the May 8 annual town polls.

Two-term Selectman Michael McCue will step aside to spend more time with his family. McCue and his wife have three young children.

The ballot includes two three-year terms on the board of selectmen; two three-year terms on the school committee; and a one-year term as town moderator.

Nomination papers became available from Town Clerk Helen Christian this week. The deadline for submitting papers signed by at least 50 certified registered voters to the board of registrars is March 20.

Three incumbents have taken out papers: school board member Jean Miller, Selectman Ann Baldwin, and Town Moderator Robert Saquet.

Also, King Arthur Way resident Christopher McGowan has taken out papers for selectman, and Marshall Avenue resident Richard George for moderator.
