SEEKONK - A woman suspected of stealing from a store on Route 6 was struck by a passing motorist on Interstate 195 while fleeing on foot with her alleged male accomplice Friday night.
The woman was being treated for serious injuries at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, police Lt. Frank John said. John declined to identify her.
The male suspect, Kevin L. Wulff, 34, of Cranston successfully eluded the highway traffic before police arrested him on Route 114A near the Shell gasoline station.
Police charged Wulff with larceny over $250.
The suspects were leaving a store on Route 6 around 5:18 p.m., and "when they saw an employee watching them, they took off," jumped a fence and ran toward I-195, said John, who declined to identify the store.
The suspects "ditched the merchandise at some point in some bushes," John said.
Seekonk and state police are investigating the incident.
