ATTLEBORO - Police and Attleboro High School officials are taking the offensive to combat speeding and careless driving by students at a time when more teens and inexperienced drivers are hitting the road.
The high school has issued written notices to students urging them to obey speed limits and drive carefully.
In addition, police safety patrols have been parking outside the high school at dismissal times, prepared to hand out warnings to violators.
Assistant Principal Richard Reynolds says the school regularly puts out safe driving messages to its students, particularly during snow and ice season, early spring and prom times.
School officials say they have not received a large number of complaints about student driving, but are taking preventive steps to prevent accidents.
School Resource Officer Robert Hale said one student, who had only a month of driving experience, was involved in a minor accident last week on Rome Boulevard and another student was stopped for speeding on Monday.
