GOBIS: KP's Cuozzo is an All-American girl




Union College freshman Allie Cuozzo of Norfolk, the former King Philip High three-sport star, finished in seventh place in the 800 meter finals and received All-American honors at the 2007 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships at Rose-Hulman Saturday.

Cuozzo, who qualified for the 800 meter finals on Friday, finished in seventh place with a time of 2:15.57. It was her second-best personal time, as she qualified with a best of 2:15.25 on Friday. Cuozzo is Union's first female track & field student-athlete to earn All-American honors. The winner of the 800 meter finals was senior Marcia Taddy of Wisconsin-Platteville, who finished with a time of 2:10.14 ...

At the Nike Indoor Championship Meet in Maryland, Mansfield High senior distance runner Ryan Collins rewrote his own school record in the two-mile run at 9:10.95, finishing fourth and gaining All-America honors, while Hornet hurdler Peter Conti finished 29th in the 60-meter race at 8.41 seconds ...

North Attleboro High's twin towers on the basketball floor, senior center-forwards Justin Graham and Charlie Morse will be on the floor at Mansfield High Sunday, trying out for the Mass. Basketball Coaches Association all-star team ...

For the third straight season Alan Friedlander led the Attleboro High boys' swimming team in points, the breaststroke and 200 IM swimmer, having over 400 career points ... Within a week, Norton High's Pat Hannon was twice tabbed a captain. The Lancer junior, a two-way lineman, was named a captain for Robb McCoy's 2007 edition of Norton High football along with two-way back Corey Hatch, quarterback-kicker Jeff Moore, two-way backs Mike Glassman and Mark Ledbetter. Then at coach Marc Liberatore's breakup dinner for the Lancer hoop team, he and Dave Bilotte were tabbed as co-captains for the 2007-08 team. Also at the football dinner, Josh Archer and Ricky Travers earned the Scout Team MVP's, Sean Ryan was the jayvee MVP, Ryan LeBlanc was the Defensive MVP, John Norcott was the Offensive MVP and Jeff Richardson was honored as the NHS football team MVP. Dana Willis was awarded the Henry J. Smith Courage Award by the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston ...

Among some of the former area high school wrestlers competing at the collegiate level, Foxboro High's Nick Avery had an 8-7 record as a freshman at Indiana in the 174-pound class; Foxboro High's Eric Rosado, a sophomore at Bridgewater State, advanced to the New England Meet; and North Attleboro's Geoff Poirier, a sophomore at Roger Williams, went 5-14 in the 174-pound class. Up at the University of Buffalo, former Foxboro High grapplers Jeff Parker (285) and Mike Ragusa (165) both juniors fared well. Parker had a 21-14 record, winning eight of nine outings over a midseason stretch, while Ragusa finished at 18-17, having a five-match win streak, then a pair of three-match streaks ...

At the Attleboro High boys' basketball team's season-ending dinner, coach Mark Houle announced that guard Allen Leach along with forwards K.P. Morgan and Jared Linhares are captains-elect for the 2007-08 squad. Leach was the MVP on the season, while senior guard Patrick Bou received the Bombardier Award ...

Bishop Feehan High senior swimmer Mike Sullivan qualified for the USSF National Meet in the 1,000-meter freestyle at the New England Sectional Meet last weekend at Harvard, while fellow Shamrock, Joe Sbordon, narrowly missed in the event ...

Co-captains-elect for Bill Cuthbertson's Dighton-Rehoboth High boys' hoop team next season will be Nate Koneski and Jared Gregory ...

Lynn Miller's Wheaton College men's tennis team (11-6 last season) returns five seniors including No. 17 ITA ranked Payum Payman of Pleasant Valley, N.Y. with 96 career singles-doubles win. Brian Danishevsky of Hamden, Conn. and Brad Dressler of Cranston are 2-3 in singles, "our success depends on how quickly our fourth, fifth and sixth singles players come along," she said ...
