Attleboro man held in store holdup

An Attleboro man is charged with holding up stores in Attleboro and Norton after police tailed the alleged getaway car to his driveway.

Gregory Forrester, 30, of 19 Fourth St., was arrested Saturday for the unarmed robberies of a store in Attleboro Thursday night and another in Norton the next evening.

Attleboro and North Attleboro police had trailed the car, a Dodge Avenger, from Attleboro into Norton both before and after Friday night's holdup at the Tedeschi's Food Shops on Route 123.

The car allegedly driven by Forrester sped away from police at more than 100 mph.

Attleboro and Norton police are also seeking arrest warrants for Forrester's alleged co-conspirator in the holdups.

Central Falls, R.I., police arrested Scott Carlson, 33, on Saturday on unrelated charges.

Forrester and Carlson, whose last known address was 36 Foch Ave., Seekonk, are suspected in the unarmed robberies of a Cumberland Farms on Pleasant Street in Attleboro on Thursday night and of the Tedeschi's on Route 123 in Norton late Friday night.

Both crimes involved a Dodge Avenger, police said.

Forrester was arrested about 8:40 a.m. Saturday by Attleboro Patrolman Jeremy Fitton, who saw him pulling into his driveway, Norton Police Detective Sgt. Brian Clark said Saturday night.

Forrester became a suspect in the holdups based on witnesses descriptions of the vehicle, Clark said.

Attleboro police Detectives James Cote and Jeffrey Peavey and North Attleboro police Detectives Daniel Arrighi and Michael Elliot then saw the car in Attleboro Friday night, and began watching it.

The detectives followed the car into Norton. At about 10:30 p.m., they saw it pull into Tedeschi's and saw the passenger run inside. The car then pulled into a driveway on Route 123 and shut its lights off, Clark said.

Believing that a robbery was imminent, the detectives contacted Norton police.

"A short time later, the passenger ran out of Tedeschi's and got into the car. Norton police received a 911 call that a robbery did in fact occur," Clark said in a statement.

In the incident, a man jumped up on the counter, pushed the store clerk and took an undetermined amount of money from the cash register, police said.

The car sped away from detectives, with its lights off, down Route 123 and John Scott Boulevard.

In the Attleboro robbery at the Cumberland Farms at 220 Pleasant St., on Thursday night., the robber had also leaped over the store counter, knocked aside a store clerk, and grabbed a handful of cash before dashing out the door, Attleboro police said. The clerk, an older man, was shaken up, police said.

Information from the investigation led Attleboro and Norton police to seek arrest warrants for Carlson for both robberies.

Attleboro Police Detectives James Cote, Jeffrey Peavey, Alex Aponte and Sgt. Arthur Brillon and Norton Detectives Jacob Bennett and Sgt. Brian Clark are investigating these incidents.

They are being assisted by Attleboro Patrolmen Jeremy Fitton, Keith Bussiere and Brian Kelly and Norton Patrolmen Jesse Winters and Jonathan Goodwin.

Forrester is being held on $20,000 cash bail at Attleboro police headquarters.
