FOXBORO - The typical water customer will pay $64 more a year under a 15 percent rate hike approved by the water commissioners.
But, that's 1 percent less than what was proposed.
The 15 percent increase, which took effect April 1, is being driven by capital improvement projects and debt on the Witch Pond well.
Under the new rates, minimum water use will cost customers $19 more a year, Superintendent Leo Potter said.
The highest water usage will cost $158 more a year.
Water customers are billed by the quarter.
Commissioner William Euerle said his board lowered the rate increase because it was equally comfortable with the 15 percent hike.
The town will save $24,000, as a result, he said.
Sewer rates will go up 20 percent.
The typical sewer customer will pay $92 per year, Potter said.
Minimum sewer use will cost $27 per year. The highest sewer usage will cost $224 per year.
Most of the additional revenue will fund Foxboro's share of renovations at the wastewater treatment plant that Mansfield runs in Norton.
Commissioners approved the rate increases during a public hearing on March 29.
