This past winter, the Bishop Feehan High girls' indoor track team had an excellent blend of older, more experienced and talented athletes to go along with young and up-and-coming performers to form an outstanding overall unit.

The Shamrocks received important contributions from youngsters in all four classes, led by four Sun Chronicle All-Stars. Senior Mary Effler, juniors Meg Looney and Alyssa Griffin and sophomore Janelle McNeil all helped propel Bishop Feehan to success in the Eastern Athletic Conference as well as at the state level.

Under the guidance and direction of head coach Paul Powell, Bishop Feehan compiled a 4-0-1 overall dual-meet record with the tie coming against rival Attleboro. The Shamrocks won the EAC dual-meet and league-meet championships. Bishop Feehan finished in second place at the Division 3 State Meet and was then sixth at the All-State Meet.

With the only blemish on its record being against the Shamrocks, Attleboro completed the year with a 6-0-1 overall record in dual-meet competition. The Bombardiers captured the dual-meet and league-meet crowns in their inaugural season in the Old Colony League.

Attleboro culminated its campaign by placing 10th at the Division 1 State Meet.
With that season-long performance, the Bombardiers placed four of their members on the All-Sun Chronicle squad, including senior Emily Fournier, juniors Danielle Clifford and Alex Neville and sophomore Dara Edge.

As is the case almost every winter, North Attleboro was a serious contender for the Hockomock League championships. The Rocketeers had a 7-1 overall record during the dual-meet campaign, falling to league champion Franklin in their final meet of the season. North Attleboro then finished second to the Panthers at the league championship meet before placing 15th at the Division 2 State Meet.

Seniors Stephanie McNamara and Kathleen Hennessey were major factors in the success of the Rocketeers as were juniors Amanda Parker and Kelsey Achin. For their efforts, all four were named to the Sun Chronicle All-Star Team.

Even with the stiff competition in the Hockomock League, Mansfield was able to complete the dual-meet season with a 5-3 record, finishing third behind Franklin and North Attleboro.

The Hornets placed fifth at the league championship meet and was ninth at the Division 2 State Meet. Senior Kate Johnston and sophomore Megan Ferreira were selected to the All-Sun Chronicle squad after having outstanding seasons for Mansfield.

With two of the top athletes in the area, Seekonk had another excellent campaign. The Warriors compiled an 8-2 record during the dual-meet season, finishing second to Old Rochester in the South Coast Conference. Seekonk bounced back to win the title at the conference championship meet before placing sixth at the Division 4 State Meet.

Junior Cassandra Teixeira (shot put) and Janelle Clarkson (high jump) each registered the top performances in the area in their respective events and were selected to the Sun Chronicle All-Star team.

Having to face the likes of Seekonk and Old Rochester in the SCC, Dighton-Rehoboth finished in third place in the conference during the dual-meet season with a 6-2-1 record. The Falcons then placed third in the SCC Meet, finishing behind Seekonk and Old Rochester. The present and future looks bright for Dighton-Rehoboth with Sun Chronicle All-Stars junior Sarah Lagasse and sophomore Ashley Noons returning to the team next year.

King Philip faced the same challenges as Dighton-Rehoboth, but in the Hockomock League. With teams such as North Attleboro, Franklin and Mansfield on their schedule, the Warriors had a 4-4 dual-meet record to finish fifth in the league. Multi-sport standout Kerry Eaton continued her progression on the track for King Philip as a sophomore and was named to the Sun Chronicle All-Star Team.

Sophomore Shannon Cunningham made her mark as one of the top performers in the Hockomock League this season. She led the way on a young Foxboro team that could very well be a force in the league next season.
