Masked robber hits liquor store

ATTLEBORO - A man sporting a white mask robbed a small, neighborhood liquor store at knifepoint Thursday night.

The robbery was reported just before 10 p.m. at Zips Liquors at 195 Pine St.

"They were just getting ready to close," Police Capt. George Bussiere said of the two clerks, neither of whom were injured.

The robber fled with an undetermined amount of money, Bussiere said.

A light-colored Honda may have been used in the getaway, police said.

The robber, whose mask covered his entire face, was described as about 5 feet, 7 inches tall, with shoulder length dark hair. He was clad in dark clothing and might have been wearing black cowboy boots, police said.

Police were trying to use the store's video camera to gather a better description.

The liquor store, near the intersection with Maple Street, is next to Robert's Automotive.

and in a mixed residential and business area.

A hair salon and cleaners are on the same block.

A purse snatching occurred a few weeks ago at the cleaners by a robber also wielding a knife, but that incident was not believed related, Bussiere said.

He said the descriptions of the two robbers don't match.
