More cash to repair city streets

Top Headlines While the statewide appropriation was increased by 25 percent, according to a letter to Mayor Kevin Dumas from Gov. Deval Patrick, new streets accepted by the city helped boost Attleboro's increase to 27 percent, city councilors said. Last year's allotment was $716,000. This year, the total shot up to $910,000. Council Public Works Chairman Peter Blais said the additional money will be a big help. "This is the highest amount in my recollection that has every come down from the state. It's great to see," he said. "This will help us to upgrade our infrastructure." Dumas, in conjunction with Superintendent of Public Works John Clover, decides how the money will be spent. Some projects in recent years have included the repaving of Pleasant Street and part of Maple Street. Maple Street also got new sidewalks and decorative trees. Some of the money will be used in the downtown streetscape project scheduled to begin this spring.

The city affraid of Ralf Shuster or something, their is absolutely no sidewalk in front of the building. As I see it a major lawsuit in hand for anyone who get's hit. The electric company left piles of dirt behind the poles to hurdle over, these mother's could'nt push their strollers over so in the road and around again. Not to mention the handy-cap in the road with their motorized wheel chairs. Could,nt even think of useing the sidewalks!!!! This problem starts from Park St. to Pleasant St. It's got to be the worst sidewalk affair in the city!!! " pleaseSteve wrote on Apr 30, 2007 11:26 AM: " Nelson ..A tourist destination? For who ,ppl from Brockton ?The city downtown is not dead or a dump because of the streets or the signage they are a dumping ground for every metally ill , drug addict, poor can afford more person. The streets that need cleaning are HOLMAN,FALMOUTH,PINE,EMORY,DEAN,Merrit Place ,southern BANK ETC ETC ..this is why the city looks like crap ....the Mayor shouldf hold landlords responible fro the properties & the state for the dumping of flop houses in town. In my opinion Attleboro can be made into a living working tourist destination if it had a comprehensive plan for proper markings of places and things that flow throughout the City. It also needs to clean up areas that are gate ways into the City such as the Emory Street / Forest Street area, the intersection and sidewalk areas are terrible. Who would want to invest in area that looks that bad. Hopefully and overhaul is in the plan for the area.
Believe, in Attleboro!
