ATTLEBORO - The Bombardiers of Attleboro High won - but they lost.
The Attleboro baseball team pulled out a dramatic 4-3 victory over Barnstable in the bottom of the seventh inning when freshman Matt Campbell socked his second hit of the game with the bases loaded to plate Brock Burns with the game-winning run.
However, the Bombardiers' victory over Old Colony League-leading Barnstable was coupled with a Bridgewater-Raynham 3-2 victory over Taunton, thus eliminating Attleboro (7-11, 4-4 OCL) from consideration for an MIAA Tournament berth.
Had Taunton prevailed over B-R, the Bombardiers and Trojans would have shared second place in the OCL and secured a postseason berth.
The Bombardiers can now serve as spoilers as they invade McGrath Stadium today, meeting Bishop Feehan, the Shamrocks needing two wins among their final three games in order to qualify for the MIAA Tournament.
The Red Raiders tied the score at 3-3 in the top of the seventh against AHS starting pitcher Brian Callan on a double and a passed ball.
But, in the bottom of the frame, AHS planted the seeds for success when Burns and Matt Johnson spanked singles. Jared Linhares reached on an error to jam the bags.
With one out, Campbell, who made his varsity starting debut in left field for AHS, slashed an RBI-single into right field to produce the fourth run. Campbell also had a double into right-center field among his previous three trips to the plate.
Attleboro had regained the lead at 3-2 in the fifth inning. Nathan Kuffrey drew a walk, moved into scoring position on a Callan double and scored on a Linhares base hit.
The Bombardiers had taken the lead in the first inning, scoring both runs with two outs. James Kelly drew a leadoff walk and scored the go-ahead run on a Callan triple. Burns followed with an RBI-single.
Callan went the distance for AHS to earn his fifth victory. He allotted the Red Raiders five hits, while striking out seven. Unfortunately, the Bombardiers' 10-hit attack was undermined by double plays in the third and fifth innings.

ATTLEBORO - The Shamrocks kept their postseason hopes alive with a victory over the Warriors in an Eastern Athletic Conference game.
Bishop Feehan scored all four runs in the bottom of the third inning. Greg Najarian led-off the inning with a double. He moved to third base on a ground out. Devin Cornetta then walked and stole second, giving the Shamrocks runners on second and third.
Lucas Gagne brought home the first run with a groundout to third, moving Cornetta to third. With two outs, Greg Hopkins cracked an RBI-double, scoring Cornetta to make it 2-0. An RBI-double by Matt Boulter scored Hopkins to increase the Feehan advantage to 3-0. Martin Finn then reached base on an error with Boulter coming all the way around to score on the play to make it 4-0.
Coyle-Cassidy scored three times in the top of the fifth inning to cut the deficit to one at 4-3, by Boulter shut the door from there. Boulter retired the first 12 batters he faced before allowing a baserunner in the fifth. Boulter finished the game allowing two earned runs and three hits, striking out three batters and walking two.
Bishop Feehan had five hits in the game with Najarian collecting a pair of doubles. The Shamrocks (8-9, 3-5 EAC) need to win two of their final three games to qualifying for the state tournament. Feehan will host Attleboro in a non-league game this afternoon.
