Only 26 percent of Americans favor the Senate bill in a Rasmussen poll conducted after the Senate voted to bring the amnesty to the floor for debate and after it voted against eliminating the guest worker part of the bill. Another 26 percent of Americans don't know what to think, and 48 percent are opposed. Rasmussen reports: "Advocates of 'comprehensive' reform have taken to arguing that those who want an enforcement-only policy must explain how they would deal with the 12 million illegal aliens already living in the country. The public reaction to that question appears to be 'Why?' Only 29 percent of voters say it is very important for the 'government to legalize the status of illegal aliens already in the United States.'" 70 percent of Americans say total legal and illegal immigration is too high, when told the numbers, according to a Pulse Opinion Research poll released this week. Rosemary Jenks, Numbers USA's director of government relations, has finally worked her way through every page and word of the Senate bill. She calculates that in addition to giving amnesty to 12-20 million illegal aliens, S. 1348 will increase legal immigration by another 302,000 a year. Yet, the Pulse Opinion Research poll finds that only 8 percent of Americans think current legal immigration of one million a year is too low. Attrition through enforcement and self-deportation is by far the most popular option for dealing with 12-20 million illegal aliens (79 percent), the Pulse Opinion Research poll found. We know that polls tend to be bogus because they usually offer people only a choice between "legalization" and mass deportations. They rarely offer the third option of enforcing the laws and causing illegal aliens to go home over time. As far as I know, every time the third option is offered, it gets the most agreement. But this latest poll does show a great deal of ambivalence and probably ignorance about what to do with the 12-20 million illegal aliens already living here. For example, when asked simply if they favored allowing "12 million illegal aliens here to be legalized and offered citizenship after they pay a fine, learn English and undergo a background check," 60 percent said yes. But when asked if they favored "a large-scale effort to round up and deport the 12 million illegal immigrants in the country, " 64 percent said yes to that. Obviously, a lot of Americans can favor both an amnesty and mass roundups. However, when offered, a "third proposal ... to reduce the illegal immigrant population over time by enforcing existing immigration laws ... (including) increased border enforcement, penalizing employers who hire illegals and more cooperation with local law enforcement," 79 percent supported that attrition through enforcement option. Those questions show that Attrition Through Enforcement is definitely the favorite option, but they also show that the majority of Americans can imagine supporting an amnesty, as well. Perhaps this ambivalence is a result of Americans having so few examples and so few officials who offered any sign of credibility that anything would work - so they just grasp at everything. As you can see, these findings are completely different from the polling that is constantly described in the news media and by the open-borders members of Congress. If you do not like what America has become or will become, call and e-mail all Republican members of the Senate ASAP and say:
"I am calling to oppose Scamnesty bill S. 1348. Please tell Senator ______ if they vote YES for CLOTURE on this bill then they just voted YES for AMNESTY. Tell Senator ______ that he/she should Filibuster this bill to stop Amnesty. Just look at McCain, he has fallen from 1st to 4th place because of his support for this bill!"
Just another attempt to have you all contact your Senator and tell him how you feel about the illegal immigrant amnesty bill. It is simple, you can call now (during non-business hours) and leave a voicemail message or you can call tomorrow morning and speak with one of his staffers.... The staffer will take a message and relay it to the Senator.... Contact information for MA and RI Senators are below.

In fiscal 2001, President Bush used the Social Security lockbox that Al Gore cherished throughout the 2000 presidential campaign. By the end of the current fiscal year, Mr. Bush will have spent more than a trillion dollars in Social Security surpluses over the last five years. And he recently submitted a five-year budget plan (2008-12) that proposes to spend $1.2 trillion more in Social Security surpluses. Moreover, according to the latest trustees' report, the present value of Social Security's unfunded liabilities over the next 75 years is $4.8 trillion. Redeeming an additional $2 trillion in current trust fund bonds will almost certainly require dipping into general revenues, which would squeeze government operations everywhere else, including national security. Thus, the present value of Social Security's 75-year shortage is $6.8 trillion, and it's rising each year.
In a fiscally catastrophic environment like this, what's another $207 billion? Well, as former Republican Sen. Everett Dirksen once said, "A billion here, a billion there -- pretty soon it adds up to real money." By several orders of magnitude, a $100 billion here, a hundred billion there . . . So, yes, $207 billion is real money. " Chris L wrote on Jun 4, 2007 9:45 PM: " 2 of 3....
Thus, the Bush administration should think twice about the U.S.-Mexico Social Security totalization agreement, which would have the effect of transferring an estimated $207 billion in Social Security assets by 2040 to 1.6 million Mexican workers and dependents. The majority of those cash benefits would go to Mexicans who worked illegally in the United States. According to a recent study by TREA Senior Citizens League, a Social Security advocacy group, $207 billion represents the price tag of paying Social Security benefits to (a) 827,000 aliens from Mexico who used "non-work" Social Security numbers to work illegally in the United States; (b) Mexican citizens who overs tayed their visas here and worked illegally; and (c) illegal aliens from Mexico "who entered the United States illegally on or after Jan. 1, 2004, and worked for at least 18 months," provided that immigration amnesty passes and they gain work authorization. " Chris L wrote on Jun 4, 2007 9:43 PM: " post 2 of 2...
Beyond the Social Security benefits that would be collected by Mexicans who worked here illegally, their dependents "are also eligible for benefits and could increase the cost of totalized retiree benefits by as much as 50 percent," the TREA Senior Citizens League study asserts.
If Mr. Bush goes forward with his intention to sign this agreement, either chamber of Congress has 60 days to reject it. Both bodies should exercise that duty. In the meantime, as the ill-advised immigration "reform" bill makes its way through the Senate, the appropriate amendments should be passed to prevent illegal aliens from making Social Security's precarious finances worse than they already are.

"We can't deport 12 million people. Well, if the government can't take custody, process, and physically remove the entire illegal immigrant population, what makes Bush, Chertoff, Kennedy and company think the government can repeatedly process and "document" 12 million people, perform background checks, etc. while processing visas for hyperdrive chain migrants and guestworkers?"
Now, ask yourselves, "If we can't deport 12 million criminals, how in the heck can we can process and document 12 million criminals??? " Chris L wrote on Jun 1, 2007 10:20 PM: " Kevin:

Amnesty didn't work before, it was just an advertisment promoting breaking into the U.S.. A comprehensive plan doesn't make sense either. When I drive to work, I start the car, turn left, turn right, brake, shift gears, accelerate, but I don't do them ALL AT ONCE!!!
First, secure the borders, then enforce the current laws. Then we can discuss what to do next. The illegals won't think it is worth staying, and will leave of thier own free will. Bam! 22 million illegals gone in five years.
We owe it to those who have struggled to enter the country legally, the youths, and the legal underclass of this country who find it VERY difficult to compete in the working world with those who will work for much less cause they are illegal. There are no jobs that Americans won't do.. just pay a fair competitive salary. " or
