Robbins eyes part-time NA job

NORTH ATTLEBORO - Her temporary appointment as town administrator might be ending in July, but former Attleboro Mayor Judith Robbins could still remain on the town's payroll - as the clerk for the finance committee.

Robbins confirmed Thursday that she is among four applicants for the part-time post, which consists of secretarial duties, including taking minutes and typing up the finance committee's recommendation booklet. The finance committee has not yet picked who to hire.

Asked if she might be overqualified for the job, Robbins smiled and said, "I like to think of myself as thoroughly qualified."

"I have a lot of knowledge that could be useful to them," she said. "I thought it would be a great way to stay involved in the town."

If the finance committee hires her, Robbins said she envisions she will be a clerk-consultant, drawing on her many years of experience dealing with budgets and financial figures.

Robbins has served as town administrator for about a year and previously served six terms as Attleboro mayor and 16 years on the city's council.

She hopes Attleboro voters will return her to city council in November, as well, as she is a candidate in this year's city election.

While the pay for the finance committee post is small when compared to the town administrator's salary, Robbins said the paycheck is not her motivation.

"It wouldn't be for the money. Once I'm done being town administrator, I'll go back to being a retired mayor," she said. "I am always looking for ways to volunteer, and if it comes with a small paycheck, that's fine too."
